Live-Scan:

Your fingerprints are submitted to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI. WE DO NOT RECEIVE A COPY OF THE BACKGROUND CHECK RESULTSB.S.I.S. will receive that information.

The live-scan operator will provide you with an ATI # that can be used to track your fingerprints. The ATI # is located at the bottom of your Live-Scan form and always appears in the following sequence:

1 LETTER; 3 NUMBERS; 3 LETTERS and 3 NUMBERS. Example: G277DST522

To check the status of your Live-Scan, call (916) 227-4557. You will need your ATI # & date of birth.

AVERAGE time for Background clearance is 1-6 weeks.

*** NOTE:  Your permit(s) will be processed/issued ONLY after you paid ALL of your fees & completed a Live-Scan. ***
If you have any history of arrest, this can result in a DELAY in the processing of your application/Live-Scan.

How To Check ON-LINE For Permits

Once the Bureau has received the online application and criminal history clearances, the cleared guard card will appear on the Bureau’s Web site. The average processing time for a NEW security  license is 30-45 business days & Firearm 2-4 months  AFTER BACKGROUND CLEARANCE is received by B.S.I.S.
  1. Go to  https://www.breeze.ca.gov/datamart/loginCADCA.do  – OR – Call 916-322-4000
  2. Click on “License Search”
  3. License Type: Security Guard or Exposed Firearm Permit
  4. Boards & Bureau “Bureau of Security and Investigative Services”
  5. Enter your First & Last Name into the designated fields.
    1. If you have been issued a permit, you will see YOUR NAME & LICENSE NUMBER.
    2. Be sure to check the issue date, address, and status of the permit by clicking on your name.
 
Once the License has been cleared and appears on the Bureau’s Web site, a screen-print from the Web site may be used as an interim license. The security guard can then be placed on assignment. The actual license/permit will be mailed to the applicant and should be received in 10 to 15 business days from issue date.
