Live-Scan:
Your fingerprints are submitted to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI. WE DO NOT RECEIVE A COPY OF THE BACKGROUND CHECK RESULTS – B.S.I.S. will receive that information.
The live-scan operator will provide you with an ATI # that can be used to track your fingerprints. The ATI # is located at the bottom of your Live-Scan form and always appears in the following sequence:
1 LETTER; 3 NUMBERS; 3 LETTERS and 3 NUMBERS. Example: G277DST522
To check the status of your Live-Scan, call (916) 227-4557. You will need your ATI # & date of birth.
AVERAGE time for Background clearance is 1-6 weeks.
*** NOTE: Your permit(s) will be processed/issued ONLY after you paid ALL of your fees & completed a Live-Scan. ***
If you have any history of arrest, this can result in a DELAY in the processing of your application/Live-Scan.

How To Check ON-LINE For Permits
- Go to https://www.breeze.ca.gov/datamart/loginCADCA.do – OR – Call 916-322-4000
- Click on “License Search”
- License Type: Security Guard or Exposed Firearm Permit
- Boards & Bureau “Bureau of Security and Investigative Services”
- Enter your First & Last Name into the designated fields.
- If you have been issued a permit, you will see YOUR NAME & LICENSE NUMBER.
- Be sure to check the issue date, address, and status of the permit by clicking on your name.
